Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is a coating that is applied to the outer layer of a fabric, giving it the ability to repel water and resist light precipitation. This treatment enables the fabric to stay dry for longer and helps to reduce material weight, which in turn offers improved insulation against the cold. The DWR finish also helps to protect the fabric from becoming saturated in high humidity conditions, which can otherwise lead to a heavy and uncomfortable material.

I'm 5'11" and 174 lbs and the Medium fits perfectly but there is no room for layering. So would need a Large to have any insulation under jacket.

Did some research on ski shells before purchasing, slightly partial to Fjallraven but as expected this does not disappoint. My first piece of technical clothing from them and so glad I got it. I wear a large in pretty much everything but glad I went with the XL size for room to layer. I’ve layered in the Minnesota winter with a warm base layer and vest and this baby does the rest. Skiing gets a little cold doing laps in the Midwest yet this was great on the chairlifts. Awesome hood, huge pockets and vents for dumping heat. Very excited to take out west to see how it breathes. In comparison, I’ve tried on a Norrøna Lofoten Pro GoreTex ($800) and that thing was so loud, my wife could hear me coming from across the store. I agree with a previous review, this jacket has a softer/quieter fabric compared to most other 3-layer shells. Also, big fan of the company’s consciousness to the environment and sustainability with this jacket. Solid purchase, wouldn’t hesitate to buy again.

I have had this jacket now for a month and used it fairly extensively: skitouring in very cold & windy days, night skitouring in heavy snowfalls, freeride days and more. I made quite a bit of research before this purchase as I wanted a jacket I can trust when the weather is really crap too. Verdict: its a great jacket. When I tour I sweat alot and this jacket is darn good on the breathability too. I live in Switzerland but bought it through backcountry.com. I bought an L. I am 183cm and weigh 78kg and an L leaves plenty of room for layers. I would buy this jacket again in a heartbeat.

Bergtagen Jacket is exceptionally light and soft...I am 6 feet 185 pounds and got an xlarge to accomodate mid layer and it fits perfectly. It is a work of art but focused on function and not fashion. It is expensive even at a sale price of 20% off (about $450) but Fjallraven makes products that work and that will last. Everything works in terms of layout, the zips, the hood...and it just feels great...so great that i almost want to wear it to bed!!! I wore it out in a cold rain with a Patagonia insulated hoodie as a mid layer and it sheds water like a duck and holds the heat in. Historically I have always purchased cheap soft shells and now have a closet of them...this jacket makes me think it is time to chuck all of them. I have two pairs of Fjallraven Keb pants and they are what brought me into the Fjallraven world....if you are wondering if their stuff is good, all I can say is give it a whirl and backcountry has an awesome return policy, and their gearheads are quite knowledgable and helpful.

I spent a good amount of time shopping around for the perfect ski shell this year. After trying out shells from all the usual suspects in the ski industry, I decided to try out Fjallraven. This shell has so many thoughtful design details that it made all the other jackets seem to be lesser quality, and just not very well designed in general. The material is softer than most shells, and the taped seams are in all the right places. All the zippers are in the right spot and have handy oversized zips to grab on to with gloves. The hood pulls down perfectly and moves easily as I turn my head. Great roomy pockets, great snaps, great color. It's a keeper.
