If only all approaches were a quick 2-minute jaunt from the parking lot, but some of the most iconic lines are miles from the road. When that's the case, leave the sandals in the car and slip on a pair of the Fivetennie Approach Shoe from Five Ten. With a super grippy outsole and climbing zone on the toe, the Fivetennie's are stable on scree and precise on low-angle terrain. The sock liner hugs the foot for security and comfort so the approach feels less like a slog and more like a walk in the woods. Five Ten's updated retro design helps this shoe transition from the crag to the brewery afterwards so you can celebrate sending your project with friends.

I ordered these to try on as I'm searching for a pair of approach shoes that are sticky enough for scrambles, but also supportive enough for long hikes with a heavy pack. As noted, these definitely run large. Adidas owns 5.10 and these were true to Adidas sizing (which consistently runs large). I had some extra room in them, but they weren't unwearable. Would have probably tried a half size down to see if that was better. The soles of these are super sticky. I walked across my hardwood floor in these and I could hear and feel the suction. They fit like a comfortable sneaker, but I ultimately didn't feel like these would be supportive enough while carrying a heavy load. And most approaches where I climb are involve a fair amount of mud, so the breathable upper seemed like the wrong choice for me.

After reading the reviews on this item I ordered a full size down. I was worried they would still be too big, but they actually fit a bit snug. It would have been better to order true to size or a half size down. I talked to a rep while getting a return authorization and they let me know that the shoes have been running smaller, since Adidas bought 5.10. The construction of the shoe was awesome. They seemed like they would hold up well. The rubber grip on the bottom was soft and very sticky. They would be a great pair of approach shoes. They are also very cute on. I would have exchanged for a bigger size, but I need a pair of shoes asap that I can break in before a big hike. If you have the budget I'd suggest ordering a few sizes to get the right fit. Back Country has a great return program and made it super easy to get a return label.

These are such a cute version of Five Ten's classic approach shoe. They have the same iconic super sticky rubber, and are very comfortable. The five tennies writing on the side is a little much, but really excited for these to be my new everything shoe! They definitely run large, I normally wear an 8.5 but decided on an 8.

I am so disappointed to need to be returning this shoe. I have been so stoked on this approach shoe since I saw promos for it in 2018. This shoe looks amazing out of the box and fits comfy- except... it runs HUGE. I am a women's 6.5 in shoes and had read reviews these were running large, and hoped the 6 would be fine for me. Unfortunately there is no way I can use the 6's. I feel like I would need a 5 in how this shoe is sized to feel safe enough to scramble, or even walk around without tripping in these. I would love to be able to buy these approach shoes and hope that they will eventually run in sizes for women with smaller feet.
