The Smith Vantage MIPS Helmet offers the ultimate in ski- and snowboard-worthy protection, style, and comfort, so you can stay safe on the slopes while looking and feeling good. Between the lightweight feel, superior safety technology, and customizable fit and ventilation, there's no excuse not to rock one.

The Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) allows a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner when your head hits at an angle in order to decrease rotational forces, reducing potential damage to your brain. Smith also engineered the Vantage MIPS with Aerocore construction, which combines lightweight EPS with revolutionary Koroyd material. This unique material absorbs more impact than traditional foams while simultaneously improving breathability and reducing weight and bulk.

AirVac 2 ventilation features twenty-one vents that can be fully opened on warm spring days, partially closed when temps drop, or completely shut in the middle of a blizzard. The Boa FS360 fit system allows you to quickly and easily dial in the perfect fit. Snapfit S12 ear pads can be removed in warmer weather, and they're also audio-compatible with a (sold separately) Skullcandy audio system.

Is Smith on something? How is this sizing correct?? There is NO WAY the head circumference/sizing described is accurate. As you may have guessed, I had to return the Vantage and switch to a different brand because their XL is more like an Large... even in their own line (the Quantum fits completely differently and true to size). I don't understand how after all the complaints and reviews, they continue to advertise the sizes the way they do... WTH are they smoking?

Gave as a gift and he said it does fit a little smaller then he is use to. He got a large and could have used and XL

Let me start by saying that I love Smith products and I have been using ski helmets for over 15 years now - Maze, Transport, etc. So, it was time to upgrade and based on the sizing charts I was Large, but base on the size of my previous Smith I went for the XL. I ordered Mission and Vantage. Vantage way too small to the point that gave me headaches in 5 min of wear, where Mission in the same size was fine. Needless to say I ended up with Mission, but would have kept this one if the fit was fine. Worth pointing is that neither one match the sizing chart either, and I did try some Giros at the store and I was L, as well as my bike helmet. As someone else mentioned, Smith really needs to address this issues if they want to increase sales. Great product when fits.

Great helmet. That’s a given. Smith’s customer service is really the reason to have allegiance to this company. I have experienced a 5 minute turn around time on a warranty claim.

I bought this helmet as a replacement for the XL Vantage I already own that is due for replacement. The new Vantage is the same high quality as my old one. However, despite what Smith's sizing charts claim, they have apparently made changes to the Vantage as my current XL Vantage fits perfectly and this XL Vantage does not fit at all. I called and explained this to backcountry.com and I'm still being forced to pay $6.99 to return a helmet that is not sized as claimed by the manufacturer. Thumbs down to Smith, thumbs down to backcountry.com customer service.

This is a great helmet. Very little leakage, very warm, very solid feeling, yet when you need some air, it doesn't disappoint with the venting. However, all of that said, it runs a bit small. If you normally wear a medium, I suggest trying it on before buying.

Awesome helmet and the one that I have been watching for the end of season sale.... While this is an "XL", it is actually smaller (front to back) than smaller diameter helmets that I have tried up to 63 cms. I figured all the other reviews didn't get that this was up to 67 cms and I'd be fine... no way. Don't get stuck with the $7.00 return fee. Smith...Please make a XXL for big heads (long narrow horse head) like me! -Todd W (wishing all the new snow would kill off the Covid and we could all go boarding/skiing while off work stuck on quarantine)

Wow. I measured a medium--upper end--but the medium was way way to small. Sent it back and order a large without the MIPS hoping for enough room to wear a thin beanie on the those extremely bitter days--if you've been to Canada during a polar vortex you know--and the large just fit with barely any need to tighten the BOA adjustment. Order up my friends!

Great Helmet very comfortable. I was at the high end of the medium measurement so decided on a large. I'm definitely glad I did it fits perfect with a balaclava underneath and no tightening of the adjustment knob

I measured my head, and even tried on a different Smith model before buying a medium. When it showed up, it was definitely too small! The helmet was nice, though, and I returned it and ordered a large.

I really love the features of this helmet and it fit very well with the Smith goggles I have. The problem is that I bought a XL size and it pressed annoyingly against my forehead. I was surprised since my last helmet from 2012 was a Smith Aspect and a L size and it fit perfectly. I know MIPS helmets are meant to be snug but this was far too much and uncomfortable. I apparently have a long oval head so I will be switching to try a Giro. I sure wish Smith didn't shrink down all their sizes.

The helmet is a perfect fit and looks great. I had to return it because I bought grey for my husband and he wanted black. Backcountry provides easy return directions. The return process itself would have been easier if I had kept the packaging box. If you are not 100% sure it is right, keep your shipping box.

I don't think I have a weird shaped head but after trying on every helmet in every ski shop in town I realized I'm either REALLY picky or my head it weird. most helmets were too wide on the sides of my head and too tight on the front and back of my head. Also, the ear pieces of most helmets are set fairly far back and didn't cover my ears. Regardless, this helmet fit like a glove!!! i stay warm, the venting is nice, and the fit is PERFECT! finally!

For starters, the Red Matte helmet is ORANGE, not red. Not sure how they describe this helmet at Red. Its more like burnt orange! Second, the helmet, size large, was way too small. Despite wearing the same exact Smith helmet for the last 7 seasons and matching the CM size of my old helmet to the new helmet I ordered, the new helmet is painfully small. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to order another Vantage MIPS Helmet, as it's the best helmet on the market, but this time in white in XL. I hope this review helps for those stoked about the matte red helment. Thxs I hope this review helps all t

The XL size is way too small. Instant headache when putting it on my 64cm head. I tried on another Smith XL helmet (forget the model), and that was too small as well. Seems like Smith completely messed up their XL size this year.

I hardly ever return items, but did this time. Two main issues: First, the ear flaps use a material that doesn't really snug up. The wind noise was way louder than I have had with an older Giro helmet. Secondly, the fit wouldn't sit down on my XL melon. It was rotating back on my big fat head and left a few inches between the google and bottom of the helmet. Was really hoping this would work as other reviews and MIPS technology read great. Just not a fit for me.

Like other reviews, the XL size runs extremely small. My head circumference at the largest point is barely 24 inches. The Size description on this Helmet states the XL is 25 to 26 niches. This helmet left a red band mark on my forehead after wearing 30 minutes in my kitchen. My guess this helmet is really a Large and not an XL (even though the Helmet and the box it came it state it is an XL - see picture). I have always had an XL Helmet for the last 3 decades of skiing and never had a problem before (I am usually on the small side of the XL size and then crank the adjustments on the Helmet to fit my head as a large is always too small). I have returned the Helmet and let the Gearhead's know the Vantage Helmets run extremely small and/or are mis-labeled and suggested they contact their supplier.
