Finding that balance between XC lightness and enduro durability is no easy task, but Shimano is more than up to the challenge with the SH-ME7 Cycling Shoes. They give all-mountain and enduro riders a lightweight option with ample protection and traction, without sacrificing responsiveness on the pedals. The SH-ME7 achieves its streamlined fit and consistent power transfer through a synthetic upper and stiff sole, which earns a rating of 8/12 on Shimano's stiffness index.
Defending against trail debris and general wear and tear, Shimano added a reinforced armor panel over the shoe's speed lacing system for more protection, while the speed lacing system itself adapts to a wide range of foot shapes with a secure fit. The ratchet buckle up top further secures an exact fit, and a stretch neoprene collar protects vulnerable ankle bones from errant sticks and rocks. A reinforced heel stabilizer holds your foot in place to ensure you don't lose any power on challenging ascents, while the carbon midsole keeps thing responsive and lightweight. After struggling for years with Sidi-inflicted issues that ran the gamut from numb feet at about the three hour mark to slipping and sliding during rocky hike-a-bikes to toe trauma with inevitable rock strikes, I'm so glad to have found the Shimano ME7's. Fit was a little tricky but the halfsize increments allowed for the room I needed and the quick lace plus ratchet strap did the trick for clamping it all down. Armor up front and grippy tread on bottom and you've got the total package. And last but not least, big thanks to Gearhead Shannon K for getting these to me when I needed them!!

If you're not strictly an XC racer this shoe is a way better buy than the typical stiff soled XC soles. I used to race and am used to riding in the stiffest carbon fiber soled shoes on the market and was tentative at first buying heavier and more flexible shoes. The loss in stiffness was surprisingly minimal and while they are a bit heavier it's unnoticeable. What you gain is all day comfort, a grippy sole should you bail on a rock you won't slip and injure yourself. Sometimes getting to a fun decent might involve some hike-a-bike and these shoes are far more comfortable and safer in these situations. Your foot is way better protected in these and I've already slammed foot into rocks what would have resulted in stubbed toe or ankle didn't leave a mark. Also this shoe is designed so rocks and debris can't get in. While this sounds gimmicky it works no more rocks in your shoe. They are a bit hotter in warm weather, but the trade off is your foot won't be totally soaked after a creek crossing. if you're looking to make the jump from a glorified road shoe don't worry about the loss in performance; it's minimal what you gain in all day comfort is irreplaceable.

The ME7's are great overall biking shoes.. I use them for MTB (also on my road bike), but they're also pretty comfortable when walking around before/after the ride compared to other biking shoes I've had. The closing systems on this shoe are perfect... I prefer the buckle over the BOA system and the quick lace is great. This is an updated version from the original ME7... a few of my friends have the original ME7's and they have made comments on how this version is better (https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/updated-shimano-me7-shoe-revew/) Sizing: I usually wear 11.5 or 12 in shoes (11.5 in Salomon's trail running) and I ended up going with the 46.5. I tried 46, 46.5, and 47... 47 was way too big, 46 was close to working, but as others have mentioned the toe box design is interesting so the 46 felt too tight. I ended up going with 46.5 and it's been great. The tightening on the buckle/lace combo keeps the shoes tight even if there's a little extra room in the toes.

The shoe looks amazing and seems to be very durable. Unfortunately, the 43 is to small and the 44 too big. I've had the previous version of this shoe in 44 and it was perfect. It's a shame (for me) that Shimano changed so much the shape.

Heads up that after reading reviews I sized down. I’m a 10-10.5 street shoe and went 44. Length wise they are spot on 44 and just a bit too short for me. The toe box is a bit wider so perhaps that is why they are “running large” with other reviews. Bummer with $7 return shipping.

Like all Shimano shoes I've owned, I found these to be well-built. However, two problems were apparent immediately: 1. They were more restricted in the toebox than other Shimano shoes in the same size (46.5), using factory insoles. I had also ordered Superfeet merino insoles to use with these shoes but there's was no way that was gonna happen... I typically don't need "wide" versions of any cycling shoe so this was annoying / surprising. 2. The shoe design is odd in that the inner edge of the shoe's opening smacked right into my medial malleolus (both feet). You can see the design difference in side views of the product; the upswept angle near the front of the shoe opening is different than the typical, gradual curve cut. They began rubbing a spot on each ankle quickly, even with a thicker sock. Disappointing. Had to send back. One more thing - don't do as I did and remove the tags / throw away the box because (based on many years of buying and wearing the exact same size Shimano shoes) you felt the shoe fit wouldn't be an issue...big (and dumb) mistake by me...now I'm going to be stuck with store credit instead of a refund. Not Backcountry's fault, but mine.

Plenty stiff enough, comfortable as slippers. I have owned othr Shimano, Lake, Sidi, Specialized-none of them were as nice.

Stiff in all the right places, walks amazing, comfortable toe box. These shoes are perfect! The sizing does run a tad large. I'm a 10.5 street shoe and bought a 44.

UPDATE- The version I had of this shoe was a limited version 1.5. I contacted Shimano who said there were issues. They replaced them with brand new version and the problem is gone. Shimano has the BEST service I've encountered for end customers. They also replaced on prior occasion some pedals which had an issue. I'm very impressed with Shimano service. This was my 2nd pair of this shoe. Shimano changed the design on this version for the worst. The area under the cleat creates an intensely painful hotspot. Unfortunately, Backcountry can't do anything past 30 days use. For something as important long-ride, long-term comfort as shoes, you'd be safer buying from REI as their satisfaction policy doesn't have a time limit. Sorry BC, love you guys but I'm not happy with your policy on this one.

Super comfortable shoe — wide in the toe box if you have baby bunions like me! Great power and feel. Good traction when walking. Shimano shoes are always a solid choice.

These shoes are very deep and average width. Very walkable, stiff but not too stiff, great traction, cleat channel allows for very aft placement. They are made of very tough, rubber like material but have ok ventilation. The quick lace system and strap work well, but in the mid foot between them, I could use and additional strap for better tension. The lace cover is kinda pointless (though it works well) and covers up the tongue ventilation. I cut it off along with the ankle cuffs. These two mods greatly improved the ventilation. These are really comfortable shoes and suited for everything from bike park to trail. I do wish a) they weren't quite so high volume (using a regular insole helps), b) the parts I cut off weren't there in the first place, and c) they'd make these with a boa and lose the uneven tension of the quick lace system. While there are some downsides it is still one of the best all mountain shoes available. I have the newer version too, the me702 and they seem more true to size. I was able to fit a 46 with my 11.5 foot.

i really wanted to like this shoe. i own a pair of shimano sphyre xc9s and theyre the best shoes ive ever owned. i was hoping the same for these. the shoe looks great and the soles look super rugged and perfect for trail riding and hiking terrain that cant be ridden. problem is that the lycra oversock has bulky seams on the inside that dig into your ankles. i really wanted to like them and even tried just wearing them around the office on carpet but the seams kept digging in my ankles. decided to return them. now im on the hunt for another pair of mtb trail shoes with decent soles for hike a bike moments
