Many of our non-cycling acquaintances seem to believe that all endurance sports are just forms of masochism. While we contend there are few things more pleasurable than turning the pedals, we do concede that the energy "food" we often choke down before and after a ride does lean toward torture. ProBar agrees, and cracking open a 12-Pack of Base Bars will convince you that the promise to create a "protein bar that resembles nature rather than a science experiment" is far more substantive than the goops, rubbery blocks, and beige powders that we've been subjected to for years.

At the Base Bar's heart is a significant supply of easily-digestible plant protein — 20 grams per serving, to be precise. This protein comes in part from the bars' inclusion of chia, which comprises protein, fiber, and antioxidants in high portions to keep you properly fueled and keep your GI tract on track between instances of high-intensity training. With yet more fiber and a burst of omega-3 fatty acids, flax seed also contributes by boosting your immune system, cellular health, and promoting weight loss to capitalize on the gains you're making.

The Base Bars are non-GMO, certified organic, and gluten free. They also don't contain any mystery synthetic ingredients, because we like to keep things like yoga mats as part of the workout experience, not part of our diet.

Just ordered, haven't even tried this flavor but I love, love, love ProBar in general and coconut is my favorite thing, so I am (almost definitely) too excited to get these!

With Base Bar in hand, rise defiantly against the paternalistic echoes in your head. Cookies CAN be for breakfast. What's more, cookie DOUGH can be for breakfast. Cookie dough IS for breakfast. It is. These are goddamn delicious. Most protein bars taste like dog food or have enough sugar to put a toddler into a coma but these are the exception. Enjoy your cookie dough.

I keep at least one of these bars in my pack for long days at the crag or on the trail. The texture and taste aren't terrible like some of the other bars out there. which makes them a bit easier to go down if I'm not feeling super hungry. Coffee Crunch and Frosted Coconut have been my favorite flavors.

I have bought the cookie dough and chocolate mint and love them both. A delicious, high-protein snack that also satisfies my sweet tooth. It's a great carb to protein ratio that keeps me full and happy.

Usually save these for after pushing it hard if I know I won't be able to eat real food right away. No complaints!

If you're expecting it to be a chalky protein bar masked up by chocolate flavor then you're gonna get what you expected. It's not that great and doesn't sit too well in my stomach but they're a good source of protein when you need it.

I like this bar for the caffeine content, which is noticeably there for me as a casual coffee drinker. Really the perfect thing after a morning run or bike ride. Not really a nightly gym post workout for me, due to the caffeine, but excited to have these for the spring and ski season 2016-17. They do taste much better then almost all other protein bars I have tried.

These bars are awesome, simple ingredients that taste good and give you energy without spiking your sugar levels. The Chocolate Bliss in particular is my favorite flavor and have a box at my house and in my car at pretty much all times.

I pretty much live on these. These are so perfect for an adventurous day. Don't slow yourself down with a big, mid-adventure meal. Save that for night. These will keep you going, till you're ready to chill out and digest some hearty hamburgers. Also, I have a sensitive tummy, and this are so good to me!!! Thanks ProBar!

While I usually eat other pro bar products during my workouts, I prefer my Base Bars either first thing in the morning or following workouts because they provide more long term energy rather than a quick fix. While they definitely have a different taste than the original Pro Bars, they are far better tasting than a lot of the traditional protein bars out there. I would agree with phunk though, that having a drink with them is the way to go, coffee works for me too :)

I love the original Pro-bars, and I'm now also a fan of their Base bar. They're tasty, not overpoweringly sweet and have good protein/carb/fat specs. Unlike the original Pro-bar, I always like to have a beverage with my Base bar. A black coffee and a Base bar is a pretty nice way to start work the day if you played hard outside the day before.
