Patagonia designed the Atom Sling Bag with a single strap and teardrop shape that stays put whether you're hiking to a lake or commuting to class. This simple design enables the bag to be accessed without having to take it off—just spin it around to your chest and you can take whatever you need from the main compartment. Patagonia also added 3D spacer mesh to keep shoulder strap and back panel comfortable and breathable. The Atom's recycled polyester is strong and light, and its DWR coating helps keep gear dry in the face of light rainfall.

Nice durable material but a little small for packing clothes and it doesn't have any other straps, or a sticky shoulder strap to prevent it from sliding down to your side like a shoulder bag.

I initially bought this for day hikes, kayaking & trips to the dog park - big enough to hold a few essentials without having to tote around a large backpack. It's so convenient & handy, that it's been promoted to my everyday purse now too. It can hold a 20 oz water bottle, small book, wallet, phone, hand sanitizer, snacks & has room for at least a few other things in the main pocket. The small zip pocket on the front is perfect for chapstick & a face mask. The other small pocket on the back is great for keys. It's really convenient to slide around front to access the back pockets. Super versatile, with durable zippers & materials - I highly recommend!

Not too big and not too small. This bag is the ideal size for my everyday carry needs. It rests in the small of your back and the strap is very comfortable. The materials and workmanship are top notch. You won’t be disappointed with this bag.

Didn't have high expectations for a low profile sling pack but I am astounded by how much I can cram into it. I regularly carry a Moleskine, paperback book, 32oz Nalgene, charger cord, and wallet in the main pocket. You can fit an iPad 10.5 in here if you're real gentle with the zipper. iPhone XR fits perfect in the outer pocket. In the stretchy strap pocket I carry a pen, pocket knife, headphones and lip balm. You *could* squeeze an iPhone 6/7 in the strap pocket but nothing bigger. Cherry on top: roll up a flannel and strap it on with the 2 outer cinch straps. Bonus points: for max stuffing, the outer panel can expand and the cinch straps tuck into their own tiny pockets to fit more. Or you can sort of fold/tuck the panel in and cinch the straps down tight to keep it condensed. The fabric is water resistant and I get lots of compliments on the color combo. I'm super particular about functional purses/bags and this one's kept me happy for a record 5 months.

This is great for small hikes and day trips. I love how comfortable it is and it fits everything I need perfectly. I dont think the front strap pouch can fit many smart phones. I have an iPhone 7 with a slim case on it and it doesn't fit. Definitely not a deal breaker. I still love it.

This sling bag has all of the features I was looking for. It’s really well made and fits all of my everyday essentials. Regular size ipad, including a portable keyboard. It’s easy to adjust the straps, and fits well around my shoulder and fits nice and flat on my back. It’s great having everything I need ready to go. The one thing that some people will have trouble with is the cell phone carrier built within the front shoulder strap. I have an iPhone Xs and it’s snug, but fits. Any phone bigger, and the feature is a waste of space.

This is a great everyday bag. The adjustable strap makes it easy to wear, slip on and off. I got the red color, but it comes in a variety of great patterns and colors for your liking. It doesn't hold much, so I'm not sure about using this for hikes, but it's perfect for a quick walk with the dog or a grocery store run.

I bought this pack for upcoming international travel because I wanted something for walking around cities, and it looks like I'll enjoy using it. It's not a particularly large pack (if I were a woman I might think of it as a purse replacement), but it's big enough to carry a light jacket, sunscreen, water bottle and the other things that come in handy when away from the hotel. I'm not sure the description explained the pockets well, so I'll give it a shot. The zipper to the main compartment is a bit over 11 inches. Within the main compartment is a sleeve or divider good for holding a small tablet (the electronic kind) or notebook (the 5"x7" paper kind). The zipper on the secondary compartment is about 6.5 inches -- my phone is 6.3 inches long with the case and it fits fine. That compartment is also the perfect size for a passport. In addition, there's a third tiny zippered pocket on the strap. It seems to be designed for holding a debit/credit card, a hotel key card and/or currency. It's not big enough for a smartphone, although you could put earbuds in there. The tiny pocket can be accessed easily when wearing the backpack on the back. The entire backpack can be swung easily to the front to access everything else (the zippers are then on top) or to hold onto in areas with a chance of theft. This pack is designed to be worn on the right shoulder, but it's comfortable enough on the left shoulder even though the pack hangs at a strange angle that way. I'm looking forward to using this! It seems to be built to last, just like my regular Patagonia day pack, which has lasted forever

This is an incredible "little" bag. I was not expecting much when I ordered it, but it has become my new go to! I'm seriously considering ordering it in other colors. It's great as an everyday bag or day pack when hiking. For reference, it may be small, but it can hold a 64oz hydro flask and still have plenty of room for other items - WITHOUT cramming or feeling overstuffed. The quality of this bag is exceptional and I feel like it will last a long time. I love that you can clip and strap things to the outside of the bag too, which is perfect for hiking. It's extremely convenient to have access to my inside items without having to take the bag off. While the bag does not claim to be waterproof, I've been caught in light-moderate rain with it and everything inside has stayed dry. I cannot rave about this bag enough. If you're on the fence, definitely order!

I use this mostly for traveling, this fits all I need for the airplane, passport, boarding passes, a pair of headphones, a small book, keys, etc. As others mentioned, the feature to pull it in front of you and open it is really nice. The materials are also great quality.

I have only one pocket in my ski pants, and I needed storage after leaving the shell in the car for late season skiing. The small front pocket holds the scan-able lift pass (which does not like sharing pockets with credit cards) and the back pocket area carries those cards, a phone, a few beverages and room for a layer as the temps climb. It also works well on the chair lift. It rests above the chair back, and the pack easily slides around to the front with the pockets facing up.

I'm certain that this is more than 8L. I use this bag for every activity, but primary it's my gym bag and home to my climbing shoes. If you need a magical bag to carry all the things, aka chalk bag, shoes, water, wallet, keys, change of clothes, and snacks, then this is the bag for you.

This is the best small pack you can buy for traveling. Fits an incredible amount of stuff for the size, convenient pockets, and nice outside straps for jackets, etc. Easy to swing around and carry in front of you if you're wary of pickpockets. Fits nicely inside of a larger pack or suitcase.

Great backpack! I also love that it has a closure that can come apart on the strap, which makes it easier to take off.

Bigger than I expected. I can fit lots of items in mine, and the bag doesn’t feel heavy. I bought the white and teal, love the pouches and color combo, especially for daytime activities like biking, beach and generally just walking around town. I came back to order the Black version because it’s easy on the eyes for a more serious look, like travel or work. The backpack fits all my accessories like makeup case, sunglasses, large wallet, gum, perfume, and iPhone 7 Plus, headphones etc., with no problem. Definitely recommend this backpack as it’s got a feminine touch, verses some that look manly. This is perfect for both male and female, I just mean I like it for me, but my husband prefers a different Patagonia style. Oh well, I’m happy with this purchase and think it’s cool and sporty! Thanks Back Country :-)

I used this bag for fly fishing over the last weekend. Worked well. Has two more pockets than the Cabela's Advanced Anglers Sling Pack, but it is twice the price. As far as a fly fishing day bag, it works really well, especially the strap pocket. You can also swing it around for easy pocket access. Definitely a luxury item.

I finally broke down and bought this... At first, when I saw everyone wearing these I figured it was a fad that would die after a while and felt like such a nerd for buying one because I don't think I have had a sling pack since I was in 5th grade. Its almost like when you would wear your backpack with one strap to be cool... BUT... I realized why everyone is so in love with this sling! I am really not a purse gal and was really over dragging my backpack everywhere. They are actually very stylish and the sling holds everything I need it to and is the perfect crossover from a pack to a purse. So, If you are like me who drags everything around with them that is completely un-necessary this bag is perfect for you! I usually use it from work to the farmers market etc. (so hip) It holds all of my daily necessities I would put in my purse plus I can strap a jacket on it on my way to work.
