This is the cutest bag to take outdoors! There are so many different pockets and I love the different sizes the bag can be. Versatility is on point with this bag.

There's a good reason why some of the best review pictures you'll ever see are on this page (sorry mine doesn't stack up or even have the bag in it!). I used this as my travel bag on a 2 week trip to Peru. I was flying/busing all over the country and needed something highly comfortable, spacious, with well thought out storage, and easy to take on buses planes and walks from place to place. I'm glad as can be I ended up with this on my back. Osprey knows how to make a comfortable back. They back that knowledge up with the Almighty-Guarantee ensuring lifetime repairs. The Porter is no exception. The padded shoulders and hip belt make travel a breeze. I had no soreness to speak of after having this on my back on and off for 2 weeks. All of those straps zip or tuck away too! It looks like a large turtle shell on the traveler's back but feels great. The internal pockets maximize the space available. There's the massive front, zippered top, and a side organizer. Unloading and reloading is easy peasy. The sidewalls are also padded to protect your souvenirs. The nylon ripstop material also withstands a beating like nothing else. It's designed to put up with an unreasonable amount of abuse. The straightjacket system allows me to reaaaalllly cinch the pack together, minimizing its size. P.S. Most planes let me use this as a carry-on as this pack is smartly designed as a 46 Liter, the max for flight carryons. Oddly though, my flight back to the states made me check the bag. Probably became too overstuffed from poor packing and added goodies from Peru. Not an issue for me but thought I'd mention it.

This is the best solution to minimalist, 1 bag travel I have found. I recently tested it for 3 weeks in Europe and can say it exceeded all my expectations. Admittedly, I am an over-packer, and this thing still fit as a carry-on with European connections. One connection even limited me to 8 kgs, and I was still able to get it under that weight limit due to it's sleek design. Most things have already been noted by other reviewers, but I will share my perspective as well. One thing I really enjoyed about this pack was how comfortable it was to walk with. I walked about 10 miles per day for 3 weeks, and really couldn't complain too much. When fully packed, it wasn't super comfortable for long distances, but the waist belt still took some of the load off. It was really easy to cinch down when less full, which helped for crowded metro rides and shops. As others have noted, when it is full, the thing protrudes pretty far like a turtle shell off your back. The benefit of that is you are maximizing the allowed dimensions for most airline's carry on policies. Also, packing cubes are a life saver and keep this thing super easy to pack and unpack. When moving between hostels/ airbnbs / hotels/ couch stays, having the big U shaped pocket makes loading and unloading your cubes insanely easy. For part of my trip, I was on a transatlantic information sharing tour with 17 other young professionals from the US. 16 of them had roller suitcases and it sounded like a stampede when we arrived in a city together. I was extremely grateful to have this pack when I saw them working through cobblestones/busy plazas. Unfortunately, since I was carrying all my camera gear, very few pictures of me were taken. Below is an example of me carrying all my day gear for 10+ miles of walking tours.

My husband and I both got these for our 3 week trip to Europe. We wanted something that we could carry around while traveling, so we wouldn't be loaded down with bags. After a ton of research, I found this pack to be the best option. It is the maximum liter size that is allowed on airplanes as carry-ons which is great because we didn't want any additional fees from checking bags. They fit in the overhead compartment easily and don't have a ton of external pockets so things weren't getting caught or snagging. While the pack protrudes off your back kinda far, it is a fairly sleek design. I love how the zipper opens up so wide so it is like a duffel, rather than a standard backpack or top loader. Really easy for me to see everything inside and organize it how I wanted to. There was plenty of room for me to store 3 weeks worth of clothing as well as toiletries, a couple extra pairs of shoes, electronics, and all my documentation. Packing cubes were a huge help for organization. Having the straps stow away was a lifesaver in Europe. One of the airlines we flew only allowed for smaller carry-ons so they checked our bags at the gate. (European airlines have different carry-on sizes than American) We hurried and stuffed our straps inside the packs so they wouldn't get caught on anything during transfers. There were not torn or broken straps to worry about when we got them back. Since they're able to be stowed away, the hip straps aren't too burly or supportive which means they aren't the most comfortable, but it was worth it and we carried them lots of miles while traveling. We still use these all the time when we're going on quick trips to relatives or even camping. It's nice to not have to worry about a big suitcase. It also helps keep us from overpacking!

I've been traveling around Peru for 15 days carrying all my staff in this amazing backpack. It felt quite comfortable during long treks and shockingly roomy to fit everything in (DSLR+2lenses+warm clothing+2 pair of shoes+and many more to go from the mountain to the jungle). I took it as a carry-on in my LATAM flight with no trouble at all. I strongly recommend this backpack.

Big, comfy and with pockets for all my things, that's how I feel and what I like the most about my new backpack. Put to the test on one of the most beautiful but inhospitable places in Costa Rica, it came unscathed and helped in making my trip a success. Looking forward to using it as carry-on luggage on my next journey abroad.

Bought this backpack simply for the fact that it is carry on size. So far after one trip, I love it. Combine it with the Osprey Daylite pack, it makes a great pair. Put them together when you have them strapped to your back, separate them when you're on the plane. Plenty of room so far for summer trips (shorts, shirts, underwear, etc.). Have not tried it for a spring or fall trip.

I purchased this pack for my first trip outside of the US. I spent two weeks wandering Iceland and Amsterdam and this pack was all I needed. I was able to pack two weeks worth of clothing, including jackets and sweatshirts, climbing shoes, Chacos, toiletries, etc., and I still had enough room for all of the souvenirs I purchased while in these countries, including $50 worth of cheese. (Amsterdam Cheese Museum, you know what's up.) With everything in my pack, it weighed 40+lbs and I walked around comfortably while still fitting the size requirements of a carry on. I use this for any sort of travel I do now, even if I don't need all 46L. Total go-to backpack that I know will be sufficient in size no matter what. Not to mention how durable Osprey packs are. I can't live without it now.

This backpack is the perfect size where ever you're going. It is small enough to be a carry on but still has plenty of storage. The front opening zipper makes getting your gear super accessible without having to dig throughout your entire bag. Whether I'm backpacking around Asia, visiting a friend in a different city or spontaneously camping for the weekend, I take this backpack everywhere.

I love that this 46 L Porter is carry on size! AND, Osprey's great update is to more the laptop sleeve closer to the users back, making the carry more comfortable. You will love this travel duffle! Leta Osprey Rep
