If the Black Diamond Momentum Hook-and-Loop is perfect for beginners, then the Men's Momentum Lace Climbing Shoe would be the next step. Although it still boasts the same comfortable, flat last with neutral asymmetry as the hook-and-loop version, the Momentum Lace features a stiffer flex and a tighter fit to give you slightly more precision. This shoe best serves climbers who have a smarter technical prowess than most beginners, but not the strength necessary for overhung climbs yet.

Initially I was told to go one full size down for a climbing shoe.. This was my first climbing shoe I have ever purchased so very novice.. I wear an 8.5 for my casual everyday shoe so I started with an 8.. There was no possible way they were even getting on.. So I then went to a 9.5 and thought I'd be okay.. Still way to tight and quite painful.. Finally went to a 10.5 and they fit snug and perfect.. Maybe it's the shape of my toes or jacked up feet or something.. But if buying online SIZE UP quite a bit.. Now since that is out the way.. The shoes are AMAZING.. And look AMAZING!! Would highly recommend for someone looking for an All-Day climbing shoe.. They do slip a tiny bit on some holds in the gym.. At the crag though they're awesome! Seriously though.. Size up!

New to the climbing world...know i like it enough to no longer rent. Friends and reviews put this shoe in the mix and the fit and price and function sealed the deal. Been happy so far.

For black diamonds first attempt at a climbing shoe, the momentum is really an amazing achievement! They run small though. I wear a size 10 running shoe, 10.5 casual shoe but I had to get the solid 11 in order to make these feel right. I love the synthetic uppers though!

When I first tried these on I was surprised at how comfortable they were. You could definitely climb all day without taking these off. One thing I noticed was that I slipped a lot easier than I did on my La Sportiva Futura's but for the price of these shoes I can't really complain.

A perfect shoe for the seasoned vet who wants something that will hold up or the beginner who wants to find a durable shoe for a good price. And it's neutral/slightly aggressive downturn will handle big walls and some bouldering.

Really new to climbing and these are what I was told to grab by a friend. I love how they fit compared to other shoes I've tried on. Climbed for multiple hours each day and no foot pains what-so-ever! Great price for what you get!

Not as much stretch to the synthetic tops but boy what a shoe! cracks are great, smearing is a tad skeptical but i'm willing to try again! for being a moderate style shoe it's versatile. I'd recommend this to any beginning climbers. Either the lace or the velcro.

Got a chance to use these and they're pretty rad. I was a bit skeptical at first as Black Diamond's line of shoes is pretty new still, but was pleasantly surprised with my experience. I'll still stick to the La Sportiva's that I have, but if you're interested in these they're a great option. Good fit.

The momentums are perfect for spending all day outside they breathe like nothing you've ever worn and don't get as stinky as other shoes (my feet are EXTREMELY smelly)

These fit well, are super comfy and I can wear them all day at the crag or in the gym (I've actually forgotten that I was wearing them, and kept them on for hours on end while just hanging out in Big Cottonwood Canyon). Great for toprope and lead if you aren't doing anything too overhanging or technical. The rubber grips well still and the laces allow me to crank them tight for more aggressive climbs when needed!
